Fort George is a neighborhood located in the northern part of Manhattan, New York City. It is bounded by 181st Street to the south, Dyckman Street to the north, the Hudson River to the west, and Broadway to the east. The neighborhood is named after the former Fort George, a military fortification that was built in 1776 during the American Revolutionary War. The fort was located at the intersection of Fort Washington Avenue and 192nd Street, and was destroyed by the British in 1777. Today, the Fort George neighborhood is primarily residential, with a mix of apartment buildings and historic brownstones. Fort George is known for its parks and outdoor spaces, including Fort Tryon Park, which features the Cloisters museum and gardens, as well as several hiking trails and scenic views of the Hudson River.
